1942 American Rifleman magazine, 11 issues, patriotic ads, wartime preparedness
These have been in my family for 79 years and likely haven’t been read since then. This is a lot of 11 issues (Jan & a March-December run) of the American Rifleman magazine of 1942. Very interesting wartime articles including infantry men “at work,” Japanese army weapons, semi-wadcutter .45s, Panama Canal defenses, quail guns, Henry Anton pistols, “single handed” (the story of Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Lt Samuel Woodfill of the 60th US Infantry in ww1), old guns & new loads, airport defense, choosing a bif bore, the Mendoza machine gun, British Army weapons, handgun trigger pulls, coastal defense, guerrilla warfare, war & wildlife, a .276 Pedersen sporter, would a shotgun work against paratroopers’ chutes, how & why of huntig sights, leading & accuracy, shotgun choke tubes, US Marines glidermen, Nazi youth training, revamping the ’45 Colt, mortars, the 98 Mauser action, the story of Paul Mauser, US Marine marksmen, new telescope sights, the 1st .22 high powers, the sniper, the possibility of a Japanese attack on the US Pacific Northwest, working telescoptics, the value of rifle fire in the taking of Vieville in WW1, game guns, picking a used handgun, bagging geese, the .25 Magnum, elk, a .22 cal “Peacemaker”, guerrilla school, some freak guns, the .333 OKH cartridge, combat shotgun training, armament of a Germa platoon and new life for old barrels. Authors like Elmer Keith, Francis Sell, Julian Hatcher. Great patriotic ads especially Western ammo color back covers. Other than some staple rust, edge wear, mustiness from storage, the July issue as a light cover crease, June issue has a torn page, or cover corner bends, they are in very good condition. Great reads as well as references, and very historic. See photos.
