    Description

I am selling a beautiful University of North Dakota School of Mines bowl measuring 5.25" in diameter and 3" in height.  It is signed by "Huck" who is actually Flora Cable Huckfield  who worked at the school from        1924-1949.  She was sister to Margaret Kelly Cable who was director and founder of the pottery portion the School of Mines.  Flora was an excellent potter in her own right.  The design is the Pasque Flower which was used by the Ponca and Omaha Indians in treatment of wounds and the eyes.  It is a native perennial flower that loves tundra and mountains and is lavender in color.  It has been also used to heal with antispasmodic properties, headaches and nerve pain. (Medical advice advised before using this plant for healing purposes!)  In looking at the bowl itself it is important to concentrate on the subtle violet colors to recognize the silhouette  flower pattern of the Pasque flowers; otherwise by focusing on the yellow/green you may miss the beauty!  There is one tiny chip to the rim which I have photographed measuring 1/8th to 1/4th of an inch. It is barely noticeable but I can not ignore the fact that it is there.  The pottery is marked as being an earlier piece as well by the bottom cobalt seal which would have dated the piece from 1910-1963.  Free shipping!
